
Mahatma Gandhi Biography
Commonly known in India as well as all over the world as Mahatma Gandhi, Mahatma for ‘great soul’ and also Bapu that stands for ‘father’, Mahatma Gandhi’s original name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Born on October 2, 1869, he was a major political and spiritual leader of the Indian nation and an undisputed leader of the Indian independence movement.


Life and Doctrines of Mahatma Gandhi
Gandhi spent most of his life advocating non-violence and truth and led the Indian people to their freedom with his doctrines and principles of peace and humility. A British educated lawyer, Gandhi was very much aware of the problems and sufferings of his country men even while living abroad.


Mahatma Gandhi and the Noble Prize Issue
Gandhi was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for five consecutive years in 1937, 1938, 1939, 1947 and finally in 1948, just a few days before he was assassinated in New Delhi. However, all the five times, he could not win Noble Prize for the reason that he was "neither a real politician nor a humanitarian relief worker."

Mahatma Gandhi and Indian Freedom Movement
Mahatma Gandhi was an important part of Indian independence movement even when he was not in the country. He noticed the political condition of the country while he was still in South Africa and urged his countrymen to observe non-violence and remain truthful in order to achieve freedom from the British.
